Artisan weaving at a traditional loom

Our Story

Woven in Tradition, Crafted with Love

Heritage Since 1972

A Legacy Woven Thread by Thread

Anuraga Vastra was born in the golden looms of Kanchipuram — a town that has been synonymous with the finest silk weaving for over 500 years. Our founder, Shri Ramaswamy Pillai, apprenticed under the great master weavers of Conjeevaram, learning the sacred art of temple silk weaving at the age of twelve.

In 1972, with a small handloom, two skilled weavers, and an unwavering vision, he established Anuraga Vastra. What began as a workshop of ten souls has blossomed into a cooperative of over 200 artisan families spread across three weaving villages — all dedicated to preserving the pure Kanchipuram weaving tradition.

Every saree we create carries the fingerprint of real human hands — the weavers who pour their heart, skill, and stories into every thread, every zari, every motif. When you drape an Anaya Saree, you are not just wearing silk. You are wearing a piece of living heritage.

Our Values

Pure Natural Fibers

We source only 100% pure mulberry silk threads, hand-selected by our master weavers. No synthetic blends, no shortcuts — only the finest natural silk that nature offers.

Handcrafted Heritage

Every saree is hand-woven on traditional pit looms by artisans who have inherited this craft through generations. A single saree can take anywhere from 2 to 30 days to complete.

Sustainable Weaving

We use natural vegetable dyes and eco-conscious production methods. Our weaving cooperative ensures fair wages, safe working conditions, and community empowerment.

The Weaving Process

Every Anaya Silk saree passes through five sacred stages of creation.

1
Thread Selection

Master weavers hand-select premium mulberry silk threads, testing for lustre, strength, and purity.

2
Natural Dyeing

Threads are dyed using plant-based and mineral pigments in an age-old process to achieve rich, lasting colors.

3
Loom Setup

The design is hand-punched onto cards and mounted onto the Jacquard or traditional pit loom, a meticulous 2-day process.

4
Weaving

Artisans weave each motif by hand, threading gold zari through silk at precise intervals to create the signature Kanchipuram patterns.

5
Finishing

Each saree is inspected, hand-pressed, and packed with a certification of authenticity before reaching you.
